Leon Anderson grew up in the territory of Alaska in the 1950s. This unbridled natural habitat was a formative influence. Now making Maine his home, he continues to explore the connections between nature and art.

Leon’s work is an exploration of the way nature organizes itself, creating order out of chaos.  He is interested in how the viewer’s perception serves to organize what is seen, and what is the Gestalt of the work.

“The artist’s journey is to find the inspirational thread and follow it. If I see something in my work that is referential to art I’ve seen, other than my own, then I go in a different direction.  For me, a piece is successful when it draws the viewer across a crowded room to look at it.”Leon Anderson
